For College Students

Friday, June 18th, 2010

Here at Atmosphere, we like to equip and prepare you for every aspect of life. One way in which we do this is through the ministry of Atmosphere U. This is where we reach out to graduating seniors, college students, or people who are simply in the workforce right out of high school.

More than a blog

If you have been following this blog for long, you have seen the Atmosphere U category pop up from time to time. This has been our attempt to share information and aid in preparing your heart for college. We like to post book reviews, video clips and resource lists for your benefit. But we want to extend beyond simply blogging things for you to think about. We want to get to know you. We want to be able to apply the Gospel to your questions as they pertain to your situations.

This year, we aren’t having a meeting like we did last summer, but we still want to honor you if you have graduated high school this year. Attend any of the regular services or Atmosphere Park Ave or Oak Hill on the weekend of June 26 and 27 and you will be recognized for graduating and receive a book from Atmosphere. We’ll be praying for you as you go where ever you go.

The Calling Sermon Audios

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

This is not a critique.. but it didn’t seem like a youth conference! It was such good stuff! It was high quality, high caliber content – loved it!

This quote from Matt Dyer on Facebook sums up many people’s thoughts on The Calling. We are praying that the Gospel preached on May 8 will go forth into all New England and change the hearts of many. One way that we are helping this Word go forward is by making available the audios from the sessions. All the main sessions and four of the breakouts are available below*. Please listen, download and share them with anyone you can.

Main Session One: Jared Wilson | The Resilient GospelQ & A Session 1

Morning Breakouts:

Mark Gedicks | Leadership Teams – Building them and Growing them for Effective Gospel Ministry

Rick Mitera | We Can all be Used by God

Afternoon Breakouts:

Jared Wilson | Crucifying the American Dream

Mark Gedicks and Josh Cousineau | Parent Care- The Bermuda Triangle of Youth Ministry

Main Session 2: Jared Wilson | The Empowering Gospel

What was the most impactful thing for you at the Calling? What questions do you still have?

*Regretfully, the other breakout sessions were not properly recorded or are missing. We will hopefully find them and post them as they become available

Valley of Vision 4.6.10.

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

“O Lord, help me never to expect any happiness from the world, but only in thee. Let me not think that I shall be more happy by living to myself, for I can only be happy if employed for thee, and if I desire to live in this world only to do and suffer what thou dost allot me.” pg. 166

Valley of Vision is a series of blog post that will contain quotes from the book Valley of Vision: A collection of Puritan Prayers & Devotions

Winter Bash Recap

Thursday, March 18th, 2010
There are many analogies and metaphors drawn to try and convince people that purity is important. But the reality is, no amount of rhetoric will convince people this is true. Last Friday at the Waterville YMCA, Josh acceded to that truth, no amount of persuasion or dissuasion, will keep anyone from having sex until marriage.

Why is this? Why is porn, lust and, sex so important to us?

The truth?

It’s because we are living for heaven instead of treasuring Christ.  And rather than ripping out this sin at its root (which would be true love to a brother or sister) we either convince ourselves that this struggle is justified or we remove the branches from the tree.  But we don’t often understand that removing an apple from an apple tree doesn’t make it any less of an apple tree, nor does it stop it from producing apples. Still, we continue to sacrifice nearly anything and everything for these sins. Josh demonstrated that Jacob, in lust, gave up fourteen years of his life for a woman. Fourteen years. (Gen.29.15-35)

Fortunately for us Jesus is the true vine, the true root. Those that are connected to Him can forsake these addictions, but only if He truly becomes treasured in our life.
After the message there were some great conversations and opportunities for outreach (Like Joel Gilbert’s throng of teenage girls spellbound by his captivating crooning and dashing good looks). Basketball, swimming, and pizza filled the rest of the evening.  Exchanging words of encouragement with youth workers from around the state helped renew the sense of calling on our lives, something we hope to reaffirm, along with its weight, back home at Atmosphere.
